Our department had the honor on February 21, 2024, to invite Director Shi Yun-Sheng Shi and Engineer Yin-An Chen from the Taiwan Integrated Disaster Prevention Technology's Disaster Prevention Division to share their experiences and insights on using disaster prevention engineering technology to enhance community disaster resilience.
Director Shi has an academic background in civil engineering and possesses years of work experience in the fields of disaster prevention planning, flood control, and landslide and debris flow prevention. Director Shi discussed how to use technology to handle large-scale collapses, urban flooding, landslides, and other disasters, especially the integration of disaster information and the strengthening of early warning systems. He also integrated the collaboration among the government agencies, private sectors and public participation, and also promoted self-management in the disaster prevention industry to achieve sustainable community development.
Dr. Chen, with interdisciplinary training in agricultural economics, human geography, and ethnology, has the ability to deeply understand and respond to community needs in community disaster prevention efforts. Engineer Chen engaged in disaster prevention practices with flood-prone communities, through cooperation between government and private sectors, and with the involvement of businesses, youth, and technology, to promote self-managed flood prevention communities. The future not only aims to strengthen early warning systems but also is committed to creating more resilient communities for vulnerable households."
