First-year master's students attended the "2024 Taipei City Disaster Response Exercise" on April 26, 2024. This exercise simulated the impact of a large-scale earthquake in Taipei City, adapting the drill method with partial prior warning, no script, and no compressed timeline, where controllers issued real-time instructions to simulate post-earthquake response operations. Observers closely monitored the responders' emergency response operation, assessing the on-site commander's decisions and the rescue personnel's skills.
Unlike demonstrative drills, this type of exercise closely resembles real scenarios, allowing participants to practice making immediate decisions under pressure and handling emergencies. Such experiences not only pre-exam the response capabilities of frontline rescue personnel but also strengthen communication, coordination, and cooperation between the response team and emergency response centers. Hopefully this will enable more effective emergency responses operations in the event of an actual earthquake disaster.
