On September 10, 2024, we participated in the “New Taipei City 2024 International Symposium on Disaster Management”, which invited experts from the Disaster Prevention and Rescue Headquarters in Seoul, Korea, the Tokyo Fire Department in Japan, and the Singapore Civil Defense Forces, as well as experts and scholars from various sectors of the domestic community, to share their experiences and practices on disaster prevention and rescue and the enhancement of resilience to disasters.

The topics of discussion included Flood Resilient Cities under Heavy Rainfall, Logistics Support for Search and Rescue Teams in Extreme Environments: The Noto Peninsula as an Example, Building Resilient Cities: Singapore as an Example, Evolution and Challenges of Earthquake Early Warning Systems: Incorporating Innovative Ideas, Application of AI Technology to Disaster Prevention in Townships and Urban Areas, and A New Perspective on Disaster Prevention: Application of Disaster Prevention and Early Warning, and so on. The content of the seminar is closely related to the prevention, mitigation, preparation, response and recovery and reconstruction of the multiple disasters caused by the current extreme climate; also, the types of disasters caused by flooding, typhoons and earthquakes are similar to those in our country, so we can borrow the international disaster response and disposal as a reference for our country; in addition, AI is a future trend that will be widely utilized in various fields and will be used in the earthquake early warning system for releasing the national-level alerts and water resources for disaster prevention and to warn the public in advance. The participants and students all gained a lot from the meeting.

All the teachers and students gained a lot from the seminar and hope to turn their practical experience into nutrients for future academic research development.
