At this stage, the government's needs for disaster prevention and response personnel are not focused on a single disaster, but rather on all-hazard management as a whole. In this trend, the existing disaster prevention-related departments in domestic universities either focus on engineering or only focus on a particular disaster, but few departments are able to propose disaster prevention and response strategies for the whole disaster.

Many of the university departments in Taiwan name as "Disaster Prevention" or similar names, but their focus is more on civil engineering, labor safety, or environmental safety issues. So, there is still a gap between the focus of their training and research and the government's promotion of disaster prevention and response. Our curriculum and faculty expertise are designed to support disaster prevention practices. Five faculty members were transferred from the Department of Fire Science of central Police University, and one additional full-time assistant professor was hired in February 2015. From 2020 to 2022, we have received nine academic grant awards from the National Science and Technology Council.

The faculty members work closely with the national fire agency, Ministry of the Interior, including assisting in the planning of National Disaster Prevention Day drills, assisting the Fire Department in the development of disaster prevention and rescue policies, and assisting local governments in promoting disaster prevention and rescue programs and community disaster prevention. Through these collaboration, faculty members and students gain practical experience and a broader vision of disaster prevention and response of professional knowledge. The Institute also facilitated the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the University and Oklahoma State University and Thrace Technical College of East Macedonia, Greece.
