On October 26, 2023, Dr. He Rui-yi, Associate Researcher of the Slopeland and Hydrology Division, National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, was invited to deliver a speech on "Analysis and Archive of Disaster Events and Application of Disaster Prevention Technology".
Dr. He was a research assistant and associate researcher at Taiwan Typhoon and Flood Research Institute, a visiting scholar at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University in Japan, and a visiting scholar at National Institute of Hydrology and Indian Agricultural Research Institute. His areas of expertise include geographic information system (GIS) application analysis, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aerial photography and modeling, landslide simulation analysis, atmospheric hydrological integration simulation, slope disaster warning, and watershed rainfall runoff simulation.
The Disaster Event Collection records major domestic and foreign disaster events, simulates and establishes models based on data, and further establishes an early warning mechanism. Learning from disaster experience to promote disaster management, Dr. He personally operates drones to collect data, completes 3D models through 3D modeling software, and combines hydraulic simulations to present flooding situations in settlements. The visual presentation makes it easier for citizens to understand the disaster situation. With the popularization of computer computing and information communication technology, we can solve the technical threshold of research and development to understand disasters more finely so that we can avoid or minimize disasters.
