Introduction of Graduate School of Disaster Management
The Graduate School of Disaster Management (GSDM) at Central Police University is dedicated to cultivating professionals with expertise in disaster preparedness, emergency response, disaster risk reduction, and resilience. The Graduate School integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications, preparing students to address the increasingly complex challenges posed by natural hazards, technological emergencies, and other emerging disaster risks.
Disaster management is inherently interdisciplinary. Accordingly, the curriculum of the GSDM is organized into four major areas: Disaster Analysis and ICT, Disaster Response and Preparedness, Disaster Planning and Governance, and Research Methodologies. These areas provide students with a comprehensive understanding of disaster science and management while developing their abilities in risk assessment, emergency planning, decision-making, policy analysis, and academic research.
A distinctive feature of the GSDM is its emphasis on the integration of theory and practice. In addition to classroom instruction, students gain practical experience through case studies, field investigations, disaster simulations, emergency exercises, and applied research. Modern analytical approaches and technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), disaster simulation, evacuation analysis, scenario-based analysis, and risk assessment, are incorporated into teaching and research to enhance students’ ability to analyze complex disaster scenarios and develop evidence-based solutions.
As part of Central Police University, the GSDM benefits from the University’s extensive expertise in public safety, policing, firefighting, emergency response, and crisis management. This unique academic environment enables the Graduate School to closely connect disaster management education with the operational needs of government agencies and emergency response organizations. The research activities of the GSDM cover a wide range of topics, including disaster governance, emergency management, urban disaster prevention, evacuation and emergency planning, disaster risk assessment, community resilience, shelter planning, GIS applications, and disaster simulation. The Graduate School also actively promotes interdisciplinary and international academic collaboration to broaden students’ perspectives on disaster risk reduction and resilience.

Graduates are awarded a Master of Science in Disaster Management and are prepared to contribute to government agencies, emergency management organizations, public safety institutions, research organizations, and related professional fields.
