On October 16, 2023, Dr. Wu Zong-Ping, Lu Jing-Chein and Deng Tzu-Jeng were invited to attend the "Taiwan-US Humanitarian Rescue Cooperation Expert Field Exchange Event" held by National Fire Agency. They actively participated in extensive discussions on disaster response communication, public messaging, and other disaster management issues with experts from the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and others. During the meeting, FEMA shared challenges and responses of information integration and decision-making, while AIT discussed correct information dissemination during disasters.
Associate professor Wu Zong-Ping and Lu Jing-Chein from the Department of Disaster Management conducted a table-top exercise without a script, presenting information and resources from various agencies based on disaster scenarios. The primary goal of this exercise was to enhance the integration of disaster-related information collection across agencies, offering decision-makers a comprehensive dataset.
The event concluded successfully after enthusiastic discussions, demonstrating Taiwan's alignment with international humanitarian rescue efforts. With increasing involvement from experts and scholars, this not only deepens the integration between academic research and practical applications in disaster prevention but also gradually enhances our country's capacity to respond to environmental risks and uncertainties.
